Organization of the District Attorney's Office

The Office of the District Attorney is comprised of 140 prosecutors, investigators, and administrative staff.  In a typical year we receive approximately 15,000 criminal complaints.  Our office is organized for vertical prosecution, which means that the prosecutor assigned to a case will prosecute that case from beginning (an indictment or bill of information) to end (conviction and sentencing).

Litigation

The First Assistant District Attorney - Litigation is responsible for supervision of all major cases being prosecuted in our trial and juvenile sections.  These major cases typically involve capital murders in which the maximum sentence is death or life in prison.  Also, criminal cases involving police misconduct are assigned to this office for prosecution.  This office also manages our legal obligations to the Grand Jury of the Parish of East Baton Rouge. In addition, this office obtains court orders for the seizure and forfeiture of drug crime assets.
